Making Torque Gym Osaka: A Rare Gem for Travellers in Japan
トルクなんば店 Torque gym Namba
Address: Japan, 〒542-0075 Osaka, Chuo Ward, Nanbasennichimae, 15−15 6F
First Impressions
Walking into Torque Gym, you're immediately struck by the professional atmosphere. The facility spans two floors, creating distinct spaces for different training styles. The gym is well-organized, spotlessly maintained, and equipped with high-end fitness equipment.
The Space
The gym's layout is thoughtfully designed across two floors, featuring dedicated areas for every training style. The separate aerobic floor and functional training area prevent overcrowding and allow for focused workouts. The changing rooms are well-equipped, going above and beyond with amenities – the women's facilities even include makeup remover and hair irons.
Important Shoe Policy
A crucial detail for visitors is the gym's strict indoor shoe policy. Here's what you need to know:
You must have a separate pair of clean indoor shoes for training
These shoes cannot be worn outside - you'll need to change into them inside the gym
If you forget indoor shoes, rental options are available at the front desk
The process: Enter the gym in your regular shoes/sandals, check in at reception (they'll inspect your gym shoes), then change into your clean indoor shoes in the designated area
This policy applies to all areas - you'll also need to remove shoes before entering the changing rooms/bathroom areas
This is standard practice in Japanese gyms, so come prepared to avoid rental fees. If you're traveling light, simply ensure your regular training shoes are clean (wipe them thoroughly before visiting) and don't wear them outside before your gym session.
Equipment
The equipment selection at Torque Gym is nothing short of impressive. It's clear they've invested in quality over quantity:
Premium USA brands including HAMMER STRENGTH, FREEMOTION, CYBEX, and TUFFSTUFF
Comprehensive free-weight section with dumbbells ranging from 1kg to 100kg
Multiple power racks and Smith machines
Extensive cable machine accessories
Various plate-loaded leg and glute machines
Complete cardio section on a separate floor
Stretching area equipped with foam rollers
The Vibe
What sets Torque apart is its inclusive atmosphere. Unlike many Japanese gyms, it's tattoo-friendly – a rare find in a country where visible tattoos are often prohibited in fitness centers. The gym maintains a focused training environment, with weightlifting videos playing for added motivation.
Communication
Language barriers are minimal here. The staff speaks English and is notably helpful with the check-in process. They are patient in explaining the gym's rules and facilities to international visitors.
Membership Pricing
The pricing structure is traveller-friendly:
Day Pass: ¥2,970 (~$16)
5 Use Pass: ¥13,200
2 Week Pass: ¥9,900
*check google or contact the gym to confirm pricing and opening hours (current at the time of writing this)
The Verdict

Exceptional equipment quality and variety

My Personal Experience
During my visit, I found every piece of equipment I needed for my training session. The CYBEX machines were particularly impressive. The changing rooms were spotless, and having amenities like shampoo, conditioner, and body soap made the post-workout routine convenient. Finding a gym with this level of equipment and facilities while traveling was refreshing and I left pumped to start the day exploring in Osaka. First stop.. Gyukatsu Tomita
牛かつ 冨田 a Japanese steakhouse just around the corner for those food gains.
