Hammerhead Fitness Gym Bali: Authentic Old-School Workout Experience in Seminyak - Traveler's Gym Review

Bali, Indonesia

Hammerhead Bali

First Impressions

When you arrive, you'll see the front signage and wonder how to get in. Go down the side street (see pictures in this blog), and prepare yourself for a treat of 3 flights of stairs before reaching the gym. Good luck to those training legs because this is your killer ender to leg day when you finally leave the gym - take it from someone who has done these stairs with shaking legs a few times!

The Space

Hammerhead takes pride in being a local gym with an old-school vibe. The equipment is extensive with a selection of over 80 workout stations, though it isn't brand new. The space has enough equipment and fitness machine variety to work out properly.

The gym is quite local and doesn't cover a large area, which unfortunately means it can get a little overcrowded at times. However, there's enough variety to satisfy your taste, and they have more than one option for every exercise you need, so you don't have to wait for others to finish or change your exercise plans.

The gym provides disinfectants and tissues for members to clean the equipment. Also, the gym has A/C and fans, which adds further comfort when working out on the blazing hot Bali day. There's plenty of space for both cardio and strength training equipment.

The outdoor area is much smaller, but it does provide options for members who want to train outdoors. There is underground parking, although there might not be enough space during rush hour.

Atmosphere

Hammerhead is Bali's preferred old-school gym. The facility is clean, and the staff are helpful and welcoming. This gym suits people of all fitness levels, and it's motivating being surrounded by all kinds of dedicated gym-goers.

And let's face it, if you follow anyone on social media who loves the gym and visits Bali, they have no doubt been here. Due to its unique location, it's one of the highest-rated gyms in Seminyak.

Pricing

  • Day Pass: 80,000-100,000 IDR for a single entry (foreigners)

  • Monthly Membership: Around 250,000 IDR for locals and 400,000 IDR for foreigners

Prices current at time of writing - please check directly with gym for latest information

Although the gym is very cheap, they have a different charging policy for locals and foreigners. Locals pay much less than foreigners, which is something that a lot of visitors take issue with apparently, but honestly, I don't have a problem with this at all. You live there, you should get this privilege.

My Verdict

Pros

  • Good price

  • Good standard of cleanliness

  • Towels, lockers, water provided free

  • Extensive equipment options

  • Air conditioning and fans

  • Helpful and welcoming staff

Cons

  • Can get overcrowded at times

  • Equipment isn't brand new

  • Three flights of stairs to access (tough after leg day!)

  • Different pricing for locals vs. foreigners (though I understand why)

Would I Recommend It?

If you're on vacation and looking for a proper gym at an affordable price, this is the spot to visit. Hammerhead is an excellent gym to get into shape while staying in Bali.

Are there more 'fancy' gyms in Bali? Plenty. You can read my next review on De Gym Kerobokan for a more fancy style gym in Bali (spoiler alert - they both have their pros and cons).

But Hammerhead has the ingredients to get you pumped and motivated. This place is a "Most Recommend" gym in town - come and check it out!

Must dos:

Goes without saying.... but I will say it anyway. Bring your own towel, bring water (lots of it!), and always wipe the equipment after you have used it. And follow the in-house rules always! 💪 🙏
