De Gym Kerobokan Review: Fitness & Strength Training Gym in Bali

Kerobokan, Bali, Indonesia

First Impressions

In Balinese, 'De' translates to 'from' or 'of a place' - and true to its name, De Gym Kerobokan offers this to the forever growing Bali fitness culture. Tucked away inside the massive Gate 88 building on Kerobokan's main street, De Gym isn't immediately obvious - it's actually housed within a co-working space! This little detail had me briefly confused when trying to locate the reception on my first visit. While not the fanciest fitness option in Bali, I was curious to try something different from Hammerhead Fitness (check out that review too!) during our second trip to Bali which was only a few months apart. If you come in via the basement carpark you will also see some great artwork on the walls.

De Gym Kerobokan Gym Review

 The Space

De Gym Kerobokan packs a surprising punch for its size! The well-maintained space features a functional zone perfect for CrossFit enthusiasts, strength training, or stretching. I was particularly pleased to find four squat racks, a dedicated deadlift platform, and an impressive range of free weights that satisfy even the heaviest lifters.

The machine selection is comprehensive and everything is kept in good condition. You'll also find cardio equipment for those who prefer that style of workout, plus a boxing bag for anyone looking to throw some punches. Best of all - the gym is air-conditioned, which is absolutely golden when training in Southeast Asia's heat!

Atmosphere

The vibe here is one of the gym's strongest features. The staff are genuinely friendly, and there's a team of personal trainers available for those interested in PT sessions or group classes. Everyone training was respectful of the equipment and each other, creating a positive environment.

The gym can get crowded during peak hours, but that's why I prefer my early morning sessions - beating both the rush and the day's heat means I can be poolside or enjoying a massage by the time everyone else is lining up for equipment!

My Verdict

Pros

  • Central location in Kerobokan

  • Well-equipped with squat racks, deadlift platform, and heavy free weights

  • Air conditioning

  • Friendly staff and respectful atmosphere

  • Clean, well-maintained equipment

  • Training room for group classes

Cons

  • Female bathrooms need improvement - located behind reception with only one working during my visit

  • Can get crowded during peak hours

  • Hidden within a co-working space, making it initially tricky to find

Would I Recommend It?

De Gym Kerobokan offers a solid equipment range if you are staying in the Seminyak/Kerobokan area. It is not the most luxurious gym in Bali, but it is not the most hardcore either and it has everything you need for effective workouts and air-con! Just a heads-up for the ladies - the bathroom situation isn't ideal, though my husband mentioned the men's facilities (which apparently house the sauna and ice bath) were in much better condition.

Must dos:

Goes without saying.... but I will say it anyway. Bring your own towel, bring water (lots of it!), and always wipe the equipment after you have used it. And follow the inhouse rules always! 💪 🙏
